CHAPTER SEVEN

“Well, that was just a whole lot of fun,” Shea said, shaking her head when they finally made it out of the farm store and into the Jeep. “Who was the old man that put Amber in her place, anyway?” she asked Trish, as she pulled out of the parking lot.

“I don’t know what his name is, but I’ve seen him around town,” Trish replied. “I wonder if that Amber woman is the only one out there at the old Gallagher place,” she mused.

“That’s the way I took it,” Shea said. “I mean, she seems like the type that would never set foot in a farm store if she had someone else to do it for her. And I still think that the manager she had out there, that horrible Lester Burns, may have been the one who ran Mike Anson off the road, so I doubt that he’d stick around.”

“Good point.” Trish nodded. “What do you think she meant when she told Faye that she’d better stay out of her way if she knew what was good for her?”

“I don’t know, but I’m really beginning to doubt whether or not I want to have those papers served to her now after all,” Shea admitted. “I’m thinking that I might want to just withdraw the lawsuit. I don’t need any drama in my life. Or at least any more drama.”

What kind of an adult acts that way in public?”

She turned into Trish’s driveway and stopped in front of the Demarcus family’s large SUV.

“I hear ya on that one, girl. I’d be shocked to my foundations if one of my kids acted like that in public,” Trish replied. “Although they did maybe…back when they were two-year-olds.” She chuckled.

Shea smiled and got out to help Trish remove the heating elements from the back of the Jeep. “I remember a few twin temper tantrums,” she said. “But Christopher and Carrie never screeched in public like that.”

“Dressed like a lawyer, screaming like a toddler, go figure,” Trish commented.

“Right? Never a dull moment when we hang out together, but thanks for going with me,” Shea said before she resettled in the driver’s seat. “I’ll see you at the farmer’s market.”

“See ya, hon!” Trish waved and headed toward the house.

Shea drove home and was pleased to see that it looked like everything was in its place when she pulled to a stop in front of the house. Samson bounced joyfully down the porch steps and wagged his tail expectantly, a big doggie grin on his face. Shea got out and stopped to let him put his paws on
